The summer heat is starting to hit us in a big way. What makes things worse, is that the wonderful community members keep assuring us that it's only going to get hotter. Hooray!
Stay tuned, next week Shabbat should be a real kicker. We are planning a full Shabbat program. Beginning with our first Kidz Shabbat program (as seen above) on Friday afternoon. The Kidz will get together just before Shabbat and enjoy an educating and exciting Shabbat experience. Afterward, at the usual time (8:15pm), the rest of the community will have the regular Shabbat services and tasty meal.
We are also planning our first Shabbat day Minyan. We're trying to do this once a month, so please help us make this a success by attending.
We will begin prayer services next Shabbat day at 10:30am. We will have Shacharit (Shajarit), the Torah reading and the Mussaf prayer, followed by another delicious 'Sonia style' Shabbat meal - Cholent, Jamin and all the good stuff!! So bring a friend, bring the kids and have a wonderful experience.
We are starting this "once a month Minyan" in preparation of our brand new Torah which we hope to welcome within the next couple of months. Our community owning our very own Torah will be a great honor, as well as a huge responsiblity. We will need to spiritually grow together with the Torah's arrival. Beginning a Minyan on Shabbat morning is a huge step forward and the perfect way to begin.
While the beautiful praying, delicious food and wonderful atmosphere is so appreciated by everyone in the community I'm sure. We also need to remember that having a community center and all of these programs comes with lots of financial strain.
In these sad('dish) weeks ahead, we remember the destruction that was brought upon our people so many years ago.
Our sages tell us that the holy temple was destroyed because of 'baseless hate' between Jews. If separation between Jews is what brought about the destruction, then surely the rebuilding of our Holy Temple will be accomplished through 'baseless love' of our fellow Jew. By acting with absolute love for each other, for no other reason, than the fact that the other person is a Jew, our brother or sister... Through this we will witness the rebuilding of our nation and our freedom, with the third Holy Temple and the redemption in Jerusalem.
Thus, it is especially important for us to work on our togetherness as a community in these times.
And so, while it is extremely important for everyone to actively be involved with the community. Attending classes, joining in the services and participating in events and functions, it is equally important to ensure that the Center be able to financially continue to exist and grow
