It's why schools have uniforms. It's why certain businesses require a
dress code. It's why people become obsessed with shopping for clothes
(well, maybe one of the reasons).
Indeed, this week's Torah portion of Tetzaveh deals with the clothing
of the Priests and high Priest in the sanctuary that the Jews built
for G-d almighty. The Torah goes into great detail describing how and
with which materials each garment should be made from.
One of the lessons to be learned from this is:
Let us examine our clothing! The characteristics and actions that we
do in our own lives express our nature and personality to the world
around us, just like the type of clothing we wear can make us look
either classy, wealthy, intelligent or the opposite to the entire
world.
When we act as Jewish people are supposed to act, we are essentially
putting on good Jewish clothing, just like Aaron and the Priests would
wear. Yet, when we G-d forbid don't act as we should, then we are
wearing and displaying our Jewish soul to the entire world in a
degrading and negative light.
